Abstract

This article examines the relationship between the digital economy and sustainable development. It 
explains that the digital economy, using information and communication technologies, can increase productivity and efficiency, as well as improve access to information. However, in order to be useful and effective, it must be based on the principles of sustainable development. Today, digitalization is considered an important component of socio-economic development, included in the global agenda. This article assesses digitalization as a factor in achieving sustainable development of the world economy. Through a monographic study, the weaknesses and strengths of the digital economy, the corresponding opportunities and threats are identified. An analysis is made of the impact of cross-cutting digital technologies on the process of achieving 17 sustainable development goals, which are provided for in the Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030, adopted by the UN. It is 
substantiated that these goals provide the most comprehensive approach to assessing the achievement of sustainable development of the world economy.
